Princess Mother Memorial Garden in Bangkok
Established in 1993, Princess Mother Memorial Garden Bangkok was the materialization of His Majesty, the King's wish to beautify the area around the Princess Mother, Sringarindra's childhood home in Thonburi. But when the project actually was initiated it was found that the Princess Mother's childhood home which was in a deplorable condition in her lifetime was no longer extant. But there were similar houses in the vicinity which the owners were ready to give up to help the King's project.
The Princess Mother Memorial Garden, Bangkok incorporates a replication of the house where she spent her childhood years. It is set in an open space with beautiful gardens enhancing the appeal of the place. There are two exhibition halls which display the photographs and mementos from the Princess Mother's life. The collection contains rare snaps like the one taken at the time when she was 14. The photographs are a sort of pictoral chronicling of the life of the princess. The second exhibition hall recounts her active life and her involvement with the various projects. It also features some of her personal items like the Buddha images that were sculpted by her for the royal family. There is a small shop adjacent to the reconstructed house that sells products manufactured by some of her projects.
